Recently I had the privilege of touring a grocery ecommerce fulfillment centre. The marvelous Business Development team of Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation’s Food and Bio Processing Branch organized the event as part of a Food + Bio Peer networking event.
If you are familiar with the old Canadian TV series called, “How It’s Made”? I felt like I was at a recording of the show, absolutely gob-smacked by the robotics of the entire facility. Their capacity to receive, sort, fulfill and ship is clearly fine-tuned for maximum efficiency and massive volumes.
If you are a small player in the food and beverage industry, selling your goods through a large grocery chain may be the perfect solution. Or it may not. It really depends on factors like your target market, inventory levels, and geographic preferences.
After our tour we had a networking and Q&A session where I was asked to give a short presentation on behalf of Bullseye Packaging Services. I wanted to impress upon my audience Bullseye’s history and relevance to the food industry and the kind of support we can offer locally emerging food and beverage businesses.
In particular, our order fulfillment services are designed to help our client’s grow their business, whether they need one B2B order fulfilled monthly, or 100 daily D2C/pick and pack orders.
Bullseye has been supporting the food, beverage and liquor industries for almost 20 years. We started with a location in BC and in 2013 we added a facility in Calgary.
Our Alberta warehouse is our larger facility where we are seasoned experts in:
- Variety pack assembly
- Retail display assembly (including pallet displays)
- Kitting
- Promotional pack assembly
- Bundle wrapping (in Chilliwack)
- Order Fulfillment
While we have been offering different versions of fulfillment over time, we have recently enhanced our D2C and B2B, in particular. We always continue to find ways to create niche services that fill in the supply chain “gaps”, according to the client needs we observe in the market.
How to decide if Bullseye’s Order Fulfillment is for you?
Have these sentiments rung true for you lately? If so, it may be time to start a conversation with us.
1 – “I’ve outgrown my physical storage space”
Perhaps you’re running out of storage space but lack the budget or inclination to buy or lease a larger space. And when you move up your square footage, do you then have the personnel and experience to run it? Never mind chasing down any necessary licensing.
2 – “I’m struggling to keep up with order demand”
Your emerging brand has caught on and you are trying to keep your head above water with production and marketing -- never mind keeping up with actually shipping out your D2C orders.
3 – “I need to free up my time to develop my business”
You can have the most impressive product on the market but if you’re not advertising your online presence and meeting with store and category managers, sales go nowhere. Time and energy must be focussed on elevating your brand in the market.
4 – “I don’t have time to research and organize best shipping rates”
There are a lot of carrier options out there and not all of them are appropriate for your needs, or may cut into your margins too deeply.
5 – “Warehousing and logistics are not my cup of tea”
You created this product and built your brand. Unless you came from a logistics background -- or have an experienced team member in this area -- inventory control, warehouse staffing, obtaining appropriate licensing may not be what you had in mind when you started your journey.
Are any of these pain points familiar? Are you ready for third party support?
From emerging brands to growing businesses, Bullseye’s focus is flexibility. Our rates are customized to your specific requirements, not a generic price list.
